Glasgow's much-anticipated Big Feed Easter Weekend at Govan Graving Docks has been cancelled after the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for wind across most of Scotland.
Gusts of 50 to 60mph are forecast from 4pm on Saturday through to midday on Easter Sunday, and organisers of the near sold-out street food event took the difficult decision to call it off.
"It's with a heavy heart we unfortunately have to cancel," Big Feed said. "We are absolutely gutted but as always the safety of you guys and our traders is the priority."
All ticketholders will be refunded automatically through Eventbrite.
The weekend — a collaboration with the Govan Graving Docks Trust — had been set to transform one of Glasgow's most historically significant waterfront sites into two days of street food, pop-up bars, independent market stalls and family fun on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 April.
A feast of vendors including Firedog, Hector & Harriet, Bundits, Fingerlicker BBQ, Base Pizza, Streat Scullery and Mam's Thai Kitchen had been lined up, alongside cocktail spots such as the Pravha Container Bar, Little Margarita Truck and Aperol Spritz Tuk-Tuk. A Sunday alpaca meet-and-greet had been among the headline attractions for families.
A Historic Site Worth Watching
The cancellation is a blow for the Govan Graving Docks Trust, established by community members in 2024 to bring Glasgow's last remaining graving docks into community ownership. The Victorian dry dock complex — described by Historic Environment Scotland as "an outstanding graving dock complex without parallel in Scotland" — closed in 1987 after decades at the centre of the city's shipbuilding industry.
A first phase of restoration completed in March this year has opened up safe public access and created a new events space beside the River Clyde, just a five-minute walk from Govan Subway. Big Feed's Easter weekend was to have been one of the first major events at the revitalised site.
The silver lining: organisers say they are "already confirming dates for another event at the stunning Govan Graving Docks" and will share details soon.
Your Easter Plan B: Big Feed x Golf It
For anyone still craving a street food fix this weekend, Big Feed's collaboration with Golf It at Hogganfield Loch is going ahead as planned — and it has the considerable advantage of indoor heated seating.
Running from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 April, the event features the third annual Easter Scavenger Hunt around the loch, kids' crazy golf, free family film screenings, street food trucks and — crucially — the alpacas are still making an appearance.
Children's tickets cost £6, which includes a scavenger map, an Easter prize and a kids' meal. Adults don't need a ticket.
Golf It is at 1240 Cumbernauld Road, Glasgow, G33 1AH. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.
