Shawlands Farmers Market is back this Saturday, 3 October, with a morning of local produce, bakes and street food outside Langside Halls.
The essentials
- When: Saturday 3 October, 10am to 2pm
- Where: Outside Langside Halls, Shawlands Civic Square, 5 Langside Avenue, Glasgow G41 2QR
- Cost: Free entry, according to What's On Glasgow's listing
The market is run by City Property Markets and takes place on the first and third Saturday of each month, according to City Property's website. What's On Glasgow describes it as bringing rural Scotland to the centre of Glasgow's Southside.
What's on offer
City Property says its farmers markets give residents access to "a diverse range of affordable, healthy and organically produced food". Shoppers can expect seasonal vegetables, fresh fruit, quality meat, free range eggs, bread, cakes, cheese and fresh street food to eat on site, the organiser says.
The emphasis, City Property adds, is on helping local producers and processors sell their goods directly to the public.
What's On Glasgow says there are always samples on offer, as well as snacks to enjoy while you soak up the atmosphere.
Stallholders must have grown, reared, cooked, brewed or baked what they sell themselves, according to City Property's trader rules. That means you are buying from the people who made it.
Who you might see
City Property's list of regular traders includes Bellfield Organics, Peelham Farm, Tay Valley Fruits, Arbroath Fisheries, Aberdeen Angus, Three Sisters Bake, Wee Cook Pies, Faodail Roastery, Caurnie Soaperie and Ania's Flowers.
Not every trader attends every market. City Property says it aims to post a list of confirmed traders on its Facebook and X accounts a day or two beforehand, so check there if you are after something in particular.
With seasonal fruit and vegetable stalls on the list, autumn is a good time to go.
Mark the diary
The next Shawlands date after this weekend is Saturday 17 October. What's On Glasgow also lists 7 and 21 November, and 5 and 19 December.
Can't make it? Try Partick
City Property also runs Partick Farmers Market at Mansfield Park, G11 6UN, from 10am to 2pm on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. By that schedule, the next dates are 10 and 24 October.
